SMASH Home Made Hype Competition

Country of Origin: United States of America

Media Type Utilized: Painter Tool SAI, Adobe Photoshop

Series Description: Imagine, if you will, the story of a young man content with his life; he has the satisfactory job, the lukewarm relationship with his girlfriend, and the eagerly burnt bridge from his parents. Now re-envision this story: the global economy is failing and the dreaded pink slip finds its way into the young man's hands. Open your mind a little more to imagine him trudging back to the university, pouring his life’s profit in an effort to snatch that higher degree. Dealing with those student loans will be tough-

-but not as tough as realizing he has an uncontrollable psychic ability, one that destroys half the university campus in a singular fateful moment.

One witness to the incident: a socially-mutated female peer who is found guilty by association. Imagine now our young man expelled, without funds, evading murder charges, and contemplating locating the nearest asylum. It is a supernatural miracle when a man of “Family Business” arrives to aid our hero by employing his newly found ‘artistic’ skills. There is a world of psychics, paranormal gifts, and otherwise peculiar oddities that needs to be regulated- and there’s no better (and more uncontrolled) ability for the job then that of our poor fellow's.

Funny, he's undeniably the wrong person for the job.

There are names to be signed in blood. Foundations of crumbling mentality must be entered. The cursing of a family's generation will be wrought. The death of a savior; the life of the deceased. Allegiances with higher alliances shall form and the veil truth of spirits will rip to reveal a world beyond our eyes.

Welcome to the new uncertain life of Azariah ‘Errol’ McClellan. “Congratulations, you’ve been commissioned.”

---------------------------------------

Mmyup, metric tons of symbolism in this: Similar clothes colors, directions facing, "The Fool" Tarot card itself, the angle of the split road, the split road itself, color schemes- no wait, already mentioned that- direction of the pipes, signs, the state of array the car is in, "The Fall, 2012" phrase, etc etc...

Surprisingly, I intended it to be a strange gradient shading with NO shading on the characters. It's supposed to be a Tarot Card, "The Fool", which are usually flat colored- or so I've seen.

Erm.

... Well, there's no denying it.

This looks unfinished because it technically is if going strictly by what I originally planned. I simply ran out of time (submitted a whopping TWO MINUTES prior to the deadline) for the ambitious image I had going in my head. I'm very disappointed seeing as how comMISSIONed is my screenwriting brain-boosting-buggy-baby (hopefully not by rape) that I'm endeavoring (like a buggy-baby) to pitch as a Television series. Don't worry, the pitch won't sound as horrid as the above description. I was literally vomiting that out at T-60.

This image is getting a face lift- once I get, y'know, good enough. There's Errol dead-center [no pun intended], our lovely socially-awkward-also-expelled-by-being-the-one-witness Sarah Fionn, and the ever chilled professional of the psychic regulating family business, Claudius. He's so chill, he doesn't need a last name.

... I don't know what else to write that doesn't sound like NPR. GOD BLESS AND THANK YOU FOR TAKING A GANDER AT MY MESS! 8D

D'aaaw, you flatter me, I swear. I'm very glad you like it! I liked it before I sent it- then disliked it- then grew very disheartened by failing to achieve what I wanted- then slowly came to terms with it.

THANKS AGAIN, NEAMDAWG. Your comments never fail to make me grin! 8D

Aww, but you should be happy with it! Because it is AWESOME. You put a lot of thought and effort into it, it looks amazing, and as for feeling like you didn't achieve what you had wanted to - you just have to accept that time will get you there. Time and practice. And a good attitude. Now have a cookie. :cookie:

:) You're too nice, EEP (haha typo, but I like it). c8

D'aw, well, to be honest, my dissatisfaction stems from knowing what I wanted to achieve and falling short. However, now that this reply of mine is SUPER LATE, I'm cool with it. I'll remake it in the future, but can be content with this result too.

Thank you~ 8D

Thank you very much! 8D I appreciate it greatly. Glad you do. Hopefully what I have in mind will be liked more, haha, because I hate how this came out.

WOAH!!! This is amazing! O__O
I hope you win! Because in my opinion, this is the best entry in the competition.

Btw, I also looked through some of your other artwork. Your art style is really cool! 8D

Whoa, really? Wow, that's an enormous compliment and I greatly appreciate it! I completely disagree that this is the best entry of course, but I still find your optimism very encouraging!

Thank you, haha! 8D I'm still very much an amateur and scouring for any sense of style. Knowing that someone enjoys looking at my art (without their eyes burning out followed by the infestation of socket leeches) is always good to hear!

You should have more confidence in your artwork. Maybe it's not at a professional level yet, but it's still amazing!

Very true. I have a long way to go and will always be on the road of learning, but, just as with everyone, I'm progressing (slowly yet surely). :] Thank you for the encouragement! Sometimes, I really need to hear it to beat out my own self critique, haha.

I'm pleased to finally see the piece that you have been diligently working on and to sum up my reaction- *jawdrop* (SUPERB!) One thing that is intriguing to me is what is going on in the reflection of the water. It is truly amazing to hear an idea from the mind then see it come to life in image and words. You say you wrote the description at the last minute (at least that's how I interpret "vomiting out at T-60" haha! ) but I've found that sometimes the best written work comes in that form.

Again, well done and I look forward to seeing how you will face-lift this work. :]

Baah, I'm honored you like it after having listening to me groan and gripe about my issues with it along the way. The fact that you like my spewed literature means even more!

Ohohoho, I look forward to the face-lifting procedure on this! Thank you again, TARDIS, you know I appreciate it!

Your groaning and griping was a sign of how much effort you were pouring into that piece of art. A good sign I might add. I'm flattered you appreciate my opinion even if everybody has one. :]

Speaking of face-lifting, I've been doing a bit of that to some of my older stories which looking back at a few has made me cringe at the quality. I agree - the more you write, the better your skills develop. I suppose that is true with anything creatively or professionally.

If you say so, as long as it wasn't an annoyance to you. Of course I want your opinion! I can trust that yours is honest and not sugar-coated, which is exactly what I seek. :]

True, it is. Practice only really seems to work when you look back and juxtapose current work with previous work.

Annoyance? Never! I'm at my best when I am a sounding board for others especially those I respect such as yourself. You may find it surprising that I value your opinion of my own work for the same reasons. :] I prefer if a person is honest about what I need to improve on because it helps me produce better work.

I wait til 5:26 in the morning for this! And then I FELL ASLEEP. I HAD TWELVE more minutes to see it. DAMN.
Looks FABULOOOOUS! And I can also see where you want to explode the image into the vision you had in your head (I have a feeling you wanted to add more shiney things >_>)

I'm making a note here, huge success!

HOW IRONIC. But I did make it in time and that was my initial goal. I'm horrible at that. The worst really.

BUT THANK YOOOOOOU. I still prefer yours as it has better composition and overall completion. Indeed, I have this elaborate imagery in my skull for this- and I'm not giving up on it until I achieve that.

[Well, then,] IT'S HARD TO OVERSTATE MY SATISFACTION.

We can only judge each other's work when they're both complete (and my work is NEVER complete, so MWAHAHA)! So, once you complete it, we'll have our own little competition,

Aperture Science! We do what we must. Because. We can!

THIS IS GORGEOUS. I WANT TO DO PERSPECTIVE AND DRAW PRETTY PEOPLE AND CLOTHING LIKE YOU.

HAVE MY CHILDREN. D:

No but in all seriousness this is gorgeous. I actually really like how the gradient shading came out. It fascinates me and I think I might want to try it eventually since I've been in such an experimenting mood with my coloring. Sigh. Your people still impress me. I love how you work with perspective and and and dynamic-ness. Nothing is EVER boring with you and that fits you really well lol.

YOU MUST TEACH ME YOUR WAYS DARLING.

Oh and if you reply with any comment akin to "I DON'T HAVE A STYLE BUT" or "WELL I DON'T THINK IT'S GOOD/LIKE THAT BUT" or ANYTHING resembling the fact that you don't believe any of my praise I will fly out there only to shoot you in the face and kidnap your cat and then fly back. Got it? Good. <3

BELIEVE ME YOU CAN. If I can, anyone can. I firmly believe that- like a croc-jawed bulldog.

THANK YOU for your compliments. You know I appreciate your input. :] Knowing that my work is in the very least interesting is enough of an encouragement to keep trying new things.

ROSE.

D'aw, thank you! I really can't see what you're talking about, but if you think my work is improving then that's encouragement enough, methinks! No need to be jealous though. I'm the last person to be jealous of, haha: The slowest and most incompetent artist alive today with a lovely dash of failing follow-through and practice skills. Still, I'm learning I suppose. :]

Thank you again!
